What the calculator calculates

The current method calculates the Ascendant only. It does not calculate house cusps, request a house system, or run Placidus, so no house-system fallback can alter the result.

Why exact time and place matter

A complete input needs a civil date, minute-precision local time, latitude, longitude, and an IANA timezone. Coordinates and timezone are entered manually; this calculator has no city search, geocoder, or location dataset. Nonexistent daylight-saving times are rejected. For a repeated local time, the user must choose the earlier or later occurrence; the default rejects it rather than guessing.

If birth time is unknown, the form cannot calculate a Rising Sign and does not turn “unknown” into 12:00. The current UI does not accept or propagate a time-uncertainty interval; it only marks the computed instant as estimated when the Ascendant lies near a sign boundary.

Method and limitations

The calculator profile is Western tropical with an explicit calculation envelope. It pins astronomy-engine@2.1.19 and @js-temporal/polyfill@0.5.1; the caller supplies coordinates and an IANA zone, so no geographic dataset is involved. The effective instant and method version come from the real calculation rather than assumed defaults.

How a result should be read

Astrologers commonly use the Ascendant as one symbolic angle in a natal chart. The technical result distinguishes the horizon calculation from any personal interpretation. A degree can be computationally reproducible without making astrology a scientific personality assessment.

The calculator adds no personal reading. This page frames the astrological context as entertainment and reflection and does not diagnose character, predict a relationship, or claim that a Rising Sign reveals a soulmate.

Limitations

The result depends on the accuracy of the time, coordinates, timezone history, engine, coordinate convention, and declared zodiac. A small time error can matter near a sign boundary. The calculator cannot verify that manually supplied coordinates and timezone describe the same place.

The calculator does not offer rectification, infer a missing birth time, or use language to select a zodiac system. It is not appropriate for medical, legal, financial, safety, or major life decisions.

Privacy in the calculator

The minimum fields are sent by same-origin POST, processed transiently, and returned with private, no-store behavior rather than being saved to a profile. This calculator has no city lookup and does not persist a location history.

Date, time, coordinates, timezone, result, or stable hashes must never enter URLs, analytics, logs, traces, replay, metadata, advertising, or the quiz. Users should still avoid entering another person's data without permission.

Explanatory example

A user might enter a fictional date, 07:42 with minute precision, an IANA zone, and a matching coordinate pair. The normalized instant and coordinates feed the horizon calculation, and the page shows the resulting degree with settings and warnings. If the time is unknown, the request stops and asks for an adequate time. This example describes the flow; it is not a personal result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate my Ascendant here now?

Can I use noon when I do not know my birth time?

No. The tool will never substitute noon silently. An exact Rising Sign requires an adequate time.

Is Rising Sign the same as Sun Sign?

No. Rising Sign is the eastern-horizon degree at a particular time and place; Sun Sign comes from solar longitude.

Does this calculator use Placidus?

No. This calculator calculates the tropical Ascendant without house cusps or a house system.

Will my city and birth time be saved?
