What the calculator calculates
The calculator derives the sidereal Lahiri longitude of the natal Moon, identifies its Nakshatra and lord, and calculates the remaining portion of the starting Mahadasha. It displays the Nakshatra, lord, opening balance, start-inclusive/end-exclusive periods, the period active at an explicitly entered UTC analysis instant, and one Antardasha level.
The current result exposes yearLengthDays: 365.25, the interval policy, Mahadasha and Antardasha boundaries, the normalized birth instant, and the analysis instant. The form does not default to “today”: the user must enter the analysis date and time in UTC.
Proposed sequence and arithmetic
The planning rulepack records the 120-year Vimshottari sequence as Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, and Mercury 17. The starting balance is proportional to the untraversed part of the natal Nakshatra.
Why birth-time precision matters
The Moon moves continuously. Near a Nakshatra boundary, uncertain time can change the starting lord and every downstream date. Exact timeline output therefore needs a civil date, time, and IANA timezone that can be normalized without a daylight-saving ambiguity.
Method and limitations
Editorial and cultural review must also define neutral language. A Dasha is not permission to predict death, illness, marriage, wealth, accidents, or another person's behavior. The calculator shows period arithmetic without adding a symbolic event forecast.
Limitations
Different Jyotish schools and software can use different ayanamsas, year lengths, boundary rules, period depths, and interpretive practices. Results from those methods are not interchangeable. A version label does not make one tradition universally correct.
Even an exact computational timeline is not a scientific forecast. It must not drive medical, legal, financial, safety, relationship, or religious decisions. No fear-based remedy, paid ritual, mantra prescription, or certainty claim belongs in the result.
Privacy in the calculator
The minimum civil-time fields travel only by same-origin POST, are processed transiently, and return with private, no-store behavior. Birth details, timezone, period facts, result IDs, or stable hashes must not appear in URLs, storage, logs, traces, replay, analytics, metadata, advertising, or quiz parameters.
Explanatory example
Suppose a fixture places a synthetic Moon partway through a Nakshatra. The pinned engine provides the longitude; the ruleset computes the remaining fraction and derives period boundaries from the same year constant. The page displays the settings and warnings. This describes a testable output shape and is not a timeline for a real person.
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate my Dasha here today?
Which year length does this calculator use?
What if I do not know my birth time?
The calculator requires a local time and does not silently create a timeline from noon or calculate an uncertainty range.
Does a Dasha predict a guaranteed event?
No. Its interpretation is a symbolic tradition, not a scientific event forecast.
Will birth data be stored?
