Atmakaraka & Darakaraka Calculator

This calculator applies a transparent method and shows its rules, results, and limitations.

Inspect an exact seven-karaka ranking from unrounded Lahiri degrees with visible tie handling and restrained symbolic limits.

Enter the calculation details

Enter the local birth instant to compare the seven declared Chara Karakas.

Birth or civil-time details

Use the calendar date at the location of the event.

Enter the clock time shown at that location, not a converted UTC time.

Use UTC or a location ID such as America/New_York, Europe/Madrid, or Asia/Kolkata; abbreviations such as EST are not accepted.

Keep the safe default unless this clock time occurred twice during a daylight-saving change. Then choose the occurrence recorded at birth.

The active form accepts civil birth time with an IANA zone through transient processing. The calculator shows the exact degree comparison behind each candidate instead of presenting an unsupported label.

What the proposed v1 compares

The candidate chara-karaka-seven-v1 system includes Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. It excludes Rahu and Ketu. For each included body, the calculator compares the unrounded degree travelled within its current sign, not the absolute 0–360 longitude.

The highest degree within sign becomes the Atmakaraka candidate and the lowest becomes the Darakaraka candidate. The result shows the complete sorted order, longitude, within-sign degree, sign, engine settings, rule version, and evidence. It does not add a personal destiny or spouse interpretation.

Why within-sign degree matters

Absolute longitude includes the number of full signs travelled. Comparing it would almost always privilege planets later in the zodiac and would not implement the proposed Chara Karaka rule. The calculation first reduces each longitude to its position within the 30-degree sign and only then orders the seven bodies.

No value is rounded before ordering. Display rounding happens afterward. This prevents two close positions from appearing tied on screen while the underlying calculation silently chose one.

Ties and uncertainty

The current form requires a minute-precision birth time and does not accept or propagate an uncertainty interval. If the recorded time itself is uncertain, the displayed ordering should not be treated as stable across that unknown interval.

Open tradition decisions

The seven-karaka choice is itself a proposal. Other lineages use eight karakas and special handling for Rahu. Those variants will not be mixed into v1. A new system requires another ruleset, sources, fixtures, and version.

Interpretation boundaries

Atmakaraka and Darakaraka are concepts within Jyotish tradition. The calculator does not call them scientific facts about a soul, spouse, identity, sexuality, compatibility, or destiny. Darakaraka does not identify a specific person.

The result does not promise marriage, prescribe a partner, or authorize targeting based on intimate inference. The calculator returns the planetary order without a personal interpretive reading.

Limitations

Different karaka systems, ayanamsas, node conventions, engines, time precision, and tolerances may produce different outputs. Settings must match before results are compared. A precise computation does not validate a deterministic life claim.

The calculator is for educational context and reflective entertainment. It is not appropriate for medical, legal, financial, safety, religious, or relationship decisions.

Privacy in the calculator

Minimum civil-time data uses same-origin POST, transient processing, and private, no-store behavior. There is no saved chart or profile. Inputs, positions, semantic facts, labels, ambiguities, and hashes must be absent from URLs, storage, logs, traces, replay, analytics, metadata, advertising, and quiz links.

Explanatory example

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate AK and DK now?

Does v1 include Rahu?

No. The proposed system has seven classical bodies and excludes both nodes.

Are planets compared by full longitude?

No. The proposed rule compares degree within each 30-degree sign.

What happens in a tie?

Does Darakaraka reveal my spouse?

No. It is a symbolic tradition label and cannot identify or predict another person.
